According to STARFLEET INTELLIGENCE, Netflix and Star Trek is in discussions about a new Star Trek Series. It would be a Netflix Original if the proposals go through. This would bring a brand new series out without Star Trek having to jump through all the hoops of a Network.
Nielson Media and Gfk have both stated that Star Trek series are the most streamed shows on the internet. This is true for both Netflix and other streaming sources. Star Trek continues to hold it’s popularity on the internet.
Part of the proposal would include a Royalty for CBS who owns the license for Star Trek for every episode of the new series that is watched. This could easily be a win/win situation for both Star Trek and Netflix.
Netflix is attempting to control the streaming market. Deals like this one with Star Trek and the one with Marvel may just cement the dominance of Netflix. Now if only a Netflix account could get me free shipping on Amazon.
