I have always loved the Gremlins movies. Every year, the original 1984 classic is a non-negotiable part of my Christmas tradition—and yes, it is 100% a Christmas movie! It’s still wild to think the original received a PG rating back in the day, leading parents to take young kids to theaters in droves for what turned out to be a surprisingly dark horror-comedy. In fact, the sheer nightmare fuel of Gizmo’s slimy offspring was one of the main catalysts that forced the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating!
Rumors and speculation surrounding a potential Gremlins 3 have been swirling for decades. While Warner Bros. previously slated the third installment for late 2027, the studio has officially updated its release schedule.
Gremlins 3—with original writer Chris Columbus returning to direct and Steven Spielberg executive producing—has officially been moved to October 6, 2028, shifting Gizmo’s grand return right into the heart of the Halloween season! Columbus has promised a dark, direct sequel utilizing practical puppet effects rather than full CGI, with a script co-written alongside Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Final Destination: Bloodlines).
