Superman Gets Another Power (Because He Doesn’t Have Enough)

In Action Comics #49 (released to stores yesterday), Superman develops yet another super power.  I have ranted more than once how Superman has way too many powers and abilities.  He has become unstoppable by almost any means.  Why not make him more powerful than he already is?  Come on man!

Superman’s new power is unusual.  He developed  the power to sense transmissions and energy waves from all over the world.  He can receive and interpret signals.  Superman can hear what is being broadcast.  Supes is now the biggest spy and is able to hear any mobile phone device or radio signal.

What is even more strange is how Superman got this new ability.  Since the last time he used his new “Solar Flare” ability, Superman has grown weaker.  He found out that his skin had been damaged and isn’t absorbing the sun’s radiation to power up.  He threw himself on a pile of Kryptonite to kill the bad skin cells.  This caused Superman to regenerate and develop the new ability.  Now he has Kryptonite radiation flowing through him.

HOLD IT!  What the!?!  We are talking about Kryptonite, right?  I thought a small piece of Kryptonite could severely weaken him and over time kill Superman.  A whole pile should instantly kill the Man of Steel.  But somehow it doesn’t and gives him a new power?  Now the same radiation that would have easily killed him not long ago has brought back his power.  WHAT!?!  Is this the Superman from Superman Returns who can lift a whole freaking island of Kryptonite?  Good grief!

This new ability doesn’t give Superman that much of a “Super” advantage.  It seems almost a silly power like super ventriloquist.  Yes, Superman can now listen to the signal of my phone which makes him a candidate for the NSA. The truly troubling thing is using Kryptonite to empower Superman.  I can’t believe I even said that.
