Make Marvel Mine was the slogan for Marvel Comics through out the years. Four big names at Marvel came together to talk about Marvel and what is going on with them. This panel had (From Left to Right) Arthur Adams, Jason Latour, Jason Aaron, and Mark Brooks. Jason Aaron is an all star writer of such books like Thor, Star Wars, Star Wars: Vader, Wolverine and the X-Men and will be the upcoming writer for Avengers. Comic Writer and Artist Jason Latour is best known for his art work with Jason Aaron and for writing Spider-Gwen. Arthur Adams is a great veteran artist with roots deep in Marvel and the X-Men. Mark Brooks is a fantastic artist for a lot of Marvel books but best known for his work on Secret Empire Crossover.
This panel focused on questions and answer from the crowd for the creators. Jason was asked about how the Marvel yearly meetings have changed over the years and he joked that they have changed a lot since he is now one of the veteran writers at Marvel. Mark joked about being hated for Hydra Cap but reminded everyone that he didn’t write it so blame Nick Spencer.
I asked a question comparing the excitement of DC’s Rebirth to Marvel’s Legacy. I asked if Marvel fans can expect to be as excited for what is going on with Legacy and new things at Marvel as DC fans are with Rebirth. I was told that fans can expect exciting things coming from Marvel. Art Adams stated it is more like a slow burn rather than the instant excitement since Marvel has not rebooted their continuity. Jason Araron and Jason Latour added to this in their beliefs that this year will bring a lot of excitement to fans as Marvel continues with their continuity.
The panel was asked about social media. They all agreed there are great things about it but also some really intensely bad things with social media. Everyone has an opinion and wants to give it to you without thinking twice about it. Jason Aaron stated that he has been accused of everything on the spectrum of religious and politically. He stated he likes people not knowing about his views and to see what is the character’s perspective even when it isn’t his own.
This was a fun and casual panel. The creators were very gracious with the fans in the audience to answer every question.
Marvel’s presence at Planet Comicon Kansas City was minor compared to the DC creators at the convention. But they did make their presence felt. It was disappointing there weren’t more Marvel creators. It is really disappointing there was on corporate presence with a Marvel booth at the convention. Hopefully they will be there next year.
