Planet Comicon KC- An All-Star Look at DC Comics Rebirth Panel

Planet Comicon KC- An All-Star Look at DC Comics Rebirth Panel

Sunday morning at Planet Comicon Kansas City 2018 started with a DC panel, An All-Star Look at DC Comics Rebirth.  This panel had (from left to right) Christopher Priest, Tom King, Clay Mann, Dan Jurgens, Marguerite Bennett, Pat Gleason, and Jason Inman.

This panel discuss what is going on at DC Comics. The comic publisher is back to the top of their game since Rebirth began back in 2016.  Here are some of the biggest creators to talk about what is happening in DC and with their comics.

Tom King and Clay Mann discussed all of the great stuff happening with Batman.  They talked about Batman’s engagement and future wedding with Selina Kyle aka Catwoman.   They talked about the how and why this relationship works for Batman.  Selina is his equal and they make a great team.

Christopher Priest talked about Justice League and Deathstroke. Priest is writing the JL like a office drama.  The Justice League is facing someone trying to smear their names.  Deathstroke is the ultimate assassin and bad father. Priest has focused on the human side of Deathstroke. He also talked about the Deathstroke VS Batman fight coming up soon over who is the real father of Damian Wayne.

Marguerite Bennett discussed the Batwoman series.  Batwoman is her favorite superhero.  Bennett has given Kate Kane aka Batwoman her own story where she has grown as a character. She is no longer a secondary or supportive character for Batman. She has been on her own in a different city but will come home to Gotham City very soon as an equal to Batman.

Dan Jurgens and Pat Gleason talked about Superman as a father and a hero.  The big news is the upcoming Action Comics 1000.  In this issue, Superman goes back to his more traditional and iconic costume with the red shorts on the blue.  Dan Jurgens stated it isn’t his underwear on the outside but it is all one piece with the red contrasting to the blue on the costume.

Jason Inman did a great job of moderating the panel. He asked several great questions but knew when to step back and just let the guests talk.

This was a fun and informative panel from DC.  DC Comics had a good presence at Planet Comicon Kansas City.  It would have been better if DC Comics had a booth and helped promote their comics at Planet Comicon Kansas City.  Hopefully they will be there next year.
