What if the original, handwritten manuscript of Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy was suddenly found and authenticated after 700 years? Imagine what secrets, hidden notes, or lost verses could be uncovered in the poet’s actual handwriting.
Most people know Dante as the legendary Italian poet who gave us The Divine Comedy. But while the massive masterpiece is divided into three distinct epic sections—Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso—most casual pop-culture fans really only know the fiery depths of the Inferno.
Soon, we get to see what happens when the rest of that masterpiece takes center stage in a wild, crime-fueled thriller.
Art, Obsession, and the Mafia
In the upcoming Netflix film In the Hand of Dante, that impossible discovery happens. The original manuscript is found, triggering a dark chain of events. The priceless artifact makes its way from a priest straight into the hands of a New York City mob boss. Enter Nick Tosches, a scholar brought in to verify its authenticity, who decides to take the ultimate risk and steal it.
This movie looks like an absolute maze of intrigue, jumping between the modern-day crime underworld and the 14th-century world of Dante himself. Best of all, the cast is insanely stacked. It stars Oscar Isaac in the lead dual roles, alongside Gerard Butler, Jason Momoa, Al Pacino, and Gal Gadot—and it’s even directed by Julian Schnabel with an appearance by Martin Scorsese!
In the Hand of Dante drops onto Netflix on June 24, 2026. Check out the trailer below and get ready to dive into the underworld.
