Show Highlight: “Dwight in Shining Armor.”

Yo, yo, my dear, nerdy sisters and bros! I mean, a hardy huzzah from one of you Otaku Queens! ^_^ So, I thought I would start a new segment every once in a while, highlighting really fun, charming, engaging shows that you most likely have never heard of.  This first “show highlight” for GeekyKool is about a delightful, entertaining, and heartwarming show that will make you smile so bright, you’ll shine!

Welcome “Dwight in Shining Armor:”

Now, my mother and brother introduced me to this show from a small company called BYU T.V . All their content is appropriate for all ages and families.  My family couldn’t stop telling me about this show, “Dwight in Shining Armor,” and how I HAD to watch it because I was the female version of the main character, Dwight.  It took me a while, but after their determined, giggling insistence, I finally did, inviting Derrick to join me in this spectacle.

And, glory to the brave, this show is like a warm hug, your most comforting friend, and the tickler of your sides!

To answer the inquiry, YES, I am very much like Dwight, everyone entertained by this! HA!

“Dwight in Shining Armor” begins with an endearing, peppy, sporting a sweater vest young high school fella named, well, Dwight.  The best way to describe Dwight is the volunteering type, kind-hearted to the core, goody-toe-shoes, teacher’s pet, but who is genuine and everyone likes him because he is giving, helpful, and perky.  One of his friends asks him to get a photo of a rare bird in the local forest for her newspaper article.  As he tracks it down, Dwight stumbles and falls into a massive, deep pit, him, and his lips, landing on top of a person covered in dust and cobwebs.  After he shakes it off, the person, a teenage girl in armor, rises to glare at him, making our dear hero very “manly” squeal.

Emerging from the side of the cavern comes a long-bearded, gray robe man with a staff, ready to protect this ‘zombie’ girl, referring to her as ‘princess.’  These two oddly dressed, medieval language-speaking strangers figure Dwight woke up the girl with his accidental kiss.  This triggered the breaking of something known as The Champion Spell.  The older man, the wizard, cast it one-thousand years ago when the princess’ castle was under a major siege attack.  It put everyone in the kingdom asleep until the princess’ Champion would come, kiss her, and defend her.

Instead, as the opening states, Dwight informs us: “she got me.”

Now, not only are the princess and the wizard awake but all their enemies as well.  And back a thousand years ago, magic and monsters were real.  Not only is Dwight now knighted and has his life bound to the princess (if she dies, he dies), but he instantly gets attacked by monsters!  This gentle passivist.

From there, this show is a darling whirlwind of magical enemies and hilarious adjustments for our reawaken royal line living in Dwight’s neighborhood (like phones, going to ‘peasant school,’ and having a moat dug around their house they paid with gold coins).  Then we find out Dwight’s super power as a ‘knight.’  Wait for it, drum roll! He has the power of…Da, da, da!

Diplomacy! 😀 Ta-da!

And how he uses it! Oh Heaven all mighty, it’s a scream! Beating a tributor with a bottle flip challenge.  Pixies taking over your body.  Summoning a ghost on accident with a magic whistle during a senior citizen dodgeball game.  Rolling a large wheel of cheese down the aisle of a forced wedding while throwing shoes at the future groom, kissing goats because lotion went bad…  All these antics are just the taste of the delicious dish that is “Dwight in Shining Armor.”  It’s a feast in every angle. Even the serious plot points, like what it means to be family, innocent love, and memory loss, are done breathtakingly.  The two main baddies are indeed intense in their plans, sending goosebumps down my arms while still being rated G.

Even if you can’t walk in armor (don’t worry; poor Dwight can’t either), this show will transport you into an incredible world.

This entire cast oozes charm.  The story is friendly, a riot, creative, and uses its characters, even minor ones, to the fullest and in wonderful, unexpected ways at times.  The effects for a small company are very well done, combat cool, and the creatures entertaining.  You easily get emersed in this world, laughing, awwing, and relating to the characters.

You’ll fall in love with these characters and the rapports, all played by such underrated actors.  Dwight is a dear, too good for words and this world.  Such a softie, but will always come through in the end, in his own respectful manner.  He is raised by his darling, health nut granny, them both adorable.  We also have our Princess, Greta, the ruler of The House of Moondragon (her mother was turned into an oak tree and her father eaten by pixies.  Talk about your tragic background).  Greta is fearless, tough, a warrior princess, all to bring honor to her kingdom despite all her enemies.  She is an excellent fighter, but if it is not battle, Greta gets bored with silly tasks (like school). Yet, she also likes to discover new things in our strange, modern world, like snacks, carnivals, and those inflatable noodle men!

And YES; I totally SHIP Dwight and Greta, but I am not giving any spoilers. 😉

Then there is Baldric, the wizard, and Princess Greta’s caretaker.  He would do anything for his Princess with his blend of pleasant/grumpy air, his expressions great, and actions.  There is also Hexela, the witch that is obsessed with her looks, but she deep down can do some good, especially with her loathe/like relationship with Barldric (them having history).  I adore the cruel/cute nicknames they have for each other! Oh! And we cannot forget Chlodwig, my mother’s favorite guy! My Mylanta! He is a dopey, blonde, Bambi-faced treat! He is Gretta’s cousin and although not the smartest pitchfork in the mob, he would do anything to help, although his plans are ill-advised.  His rapport with Dwight, how they have such a sweet bromance, forming a “Guy Club,” has me cackling and beaming each time! He is for sure the comedy relief although each character is full of the skills to tickle your funny bone.

“Dwight in Shining Armor” cast

The charming town of Westbridge will grab your heart and essence in every way, and luckily, we have five seasons to enjoy, each ten half-hour episode, and the best part?  IT’S ALL FOR FREE! BYU TV is a free channel.  You can watch it on any streaming service using a Kindle Fire or Roku, your smartphone through their app, or your computer/desktop.  The ONLY way you CAN’T currently watch it through a Playstation or X-Box app.

There are also other grand shows on here, again, all fun for the entire family, such as a show that is similar to “Whose Line is it Anyway?” but rated G and they have to make up a Broadway musical on the spot! Everything on their channel will make you feel good, perfect for a relaxing day.

My fair maidens and future Champions, let’s go to this quaint town with a dark secret, a population who doesn’t bat an eye at our new ‘friends,’ being they have Ren Faires often (I cherish that this is a THING here), grab some fizzy sodas at the tavern, and ride off to protect our kingdom, I-pod playing our battle music.  GO WOODCHUCKS!
