Robert Redford, the legendary actor, director, and environmental advocate, passed away at the age of 89. He died peacefully at his home in Sundance, nestled in the mountains of Utah, surrounded by loved ones. His family has requested privacy during this time.
Redford was a cinematic icon whose career spanned more than six decades. Known for his magnetic screen presence and enduring charisma, he starred in some of Hollywood’s most beloved films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men, The Natural, The Sting, The Candidate, Indecent Proposal, Sneakers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Barefoot in the Park.
As a director, Redford earned critical acclaim for films such as Ordinary People—which won him an Academy Award for Best Director—Quiz Show, The Legend of Bagger Vance, and A River Runs Through It. He also founded the Sundance Institute and Film Festival, helping to elevate independent cinema and support emerging filmmakers
On a personal note, one of my favorite performances by Redford was in Barefoot in the Park, the Neil Simon adaptation where he starred opposite Jane Fonda. The film beautifully captures the quirky, joyful, and unpredictable nature of love, and remains a standout in both of their careers.
Thank you, Robert Redford, for a lifetime of unforgettable storytelling and artistic brilliance. You will be deeply missed. Rest in peace.
