Where’s the Love for Lilo? A Fan’s Perspective on Disney’s Beloved Misfit

Where’s the Love for Lilo? A Fan’s Perspective on Disney’s Beloved Misfit

I’ve been a passionate fan of the original Lilo & Stitch animated film since I first saw it in theaters at age 32. I don’t mind saying it loud and proud—this movie ranks among my all-time favorite animated films.

Over the years, Lilo & Stitch has earned a devoted fanbase, and I’m thrilled to be part of that community. Stitch, the mischievous alien with a heart, has become a pop culture icon. His image is everywhere—on t-shirts, hats, pajamas, backpacks, and plush toys. And honestly, that’s awesome.

But I have one lingering question: Where is all the Lilo merchandise?

Lilo is my favorite character—not just in the original film, but in the sequels too. She’s spunky, stubborn, and wonderfully weird. She doesn’t fit in with her peers, and while she’s not an alien, she’s often treated like one. Her quirks, from her love of Elvis to her deep need for connection, make her incredibly relatable.

While Stitch represents chaos and fun, Lilo represents something deeper. I connect with her struggles—growing up in a family facing financial hardship, expressing creativity in unconventional ways, and longing for friendship in a world that doesn’t always understand her. Honestly, I relate to Lilo almost as much as I relate to Peter Parker—and that’s saying something.

I have no issue with those who adore Stitch. Fandom is about celebrating what speaks to us, and I support everyone in their passions. But I also want to shine a light on another incredible character: Nani, Lilo’s older sister. She’s strong, loving, and doing her best to raise Lilo under challenging circumstances. Nani deserves more recognition—and more merch too!

So, I ask again: Where are the Lilo fanatics like me? Maybe I’m alone in this. And if so, that’s okay. I’ve always been a little different—just like Lilo. And I’m proud of that.

If Disney and their marketing team would release Lilo centered merchandise, I would be buying it up.  But… maybe I am the only one.  I have always been different… and I am proud of it just like Lilo.

Stay Geeky… just like Lilo!
