We have been hearing rumors of a new Ghostbusters movie for some time. There were numerous discussions and rumors if it would be a continuation of the Ghostbusters movies with the mantle being handed off to a new group or a whole new reboot without the previous continuity. I was cheering hard for a continuation even when Bill Murray wasn’t willing to do it. Heck, you could have Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson) hand over the reigns or even be the support for the new Ghostbusters. But it appears that it will be a fresh reboot with four new Ghostbusters.
There was another substantial rumor that has been following around this movie. The rumor stated that the new Ghostbusters would all be ladies. This rumor appears to have been right on the money.
According to THR, the cast of the new rebooted Ghostbusters movie is out. The very popular Melissa McCarthy has been cast along with Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon.
Just like the original Ghostbusters movie, you take a group of comedians and put the together for a fun film about catching ghosts. Jones, Wiig, and McKinnon are all alumni of Saturday Night Live. McCarthy brings a long string of television and movie comedies to her resume. As long as the group can work together and have some chemistry and allow there to be enough jokes to go around, then this might really work.
I know there are a lot of Ghostbusters traditionalists that will not like this. Honestly, they weren’t going to like anyone remaking Ghostbusters.
I personally like the casting of this movie. I would have preferred it not to be a reboot but I will give it a chance. It could be a fun ride. After all, I ain’t afraid of no ghost!
The New Ghostbusters movie is set to shoot in New York over the summer. The planned release date is July 22, 2016.
