Is Samsung’s Smart TV With Voice Activation- Too Smart?

Some of the new Samsung Smart Television sets come with voice activation.  This allows the user to speak to their TVs just like we do to our phones.  But to make this service work, Samsung stores all of the voice data to a third party server (Nuance Communications).

But your new super smart TV may be storing much more than just your commands to turn on Netflix.  It is storing any conversations you have in range of the audio sensor.  Samsung is now warning its customers not to speak about personal information in front of your television.

Your television could be recording your gossip conversation about which friend’s husband who is a jerk.  It might pick up your voice when you are yelling at the kids to pick up their rooms and what you might do to them if they don’t get it clean very soon.  If your television is in your bedroom, it might be even more embarrassing.
