Geek Unplugged (Almost)

My family and I are on vacation. We are staying at a resort in Branson, MO for the week.  We made the short trek to Branson on Saturday afternoon and have been away from home ever since. We will get back to regular life on late Friday.

The resort is nice with a ton of accommodations.  They have a bunch of swimming pools, a rec room, and basketball and tennis courts. They have an awesome golf course but I don’t play golf. The one thing that we don’t have is internet access in our condo.

I couldn’t imagine that a great resort like this one wouldn’t have some sort of access in our rooms.  Even Motel 6 has free wifi access nowadays.  I would understand if they had the old CAT 5 cables and you have to plug in for access but they don’t even have that.  The staff stated that they are in process of getting Wifi for the different buildings but currently it is not available in any of the condos.

The only way to have internet access on my laptop is to go to the main guest building. They have wifi in the recreation room and their Commons Room.  I have used this access and it works great but it is not very convenient for vacationing families.  We have been on the go and our schedule is not always conducive to the hours of their building. I did use it for several hours one day but that didn’t please my wife because she had to entertain the kids without me.

My smartphone has a great signal at our condo and throughout Branson. I have been able to access my e-mail, Facebook, news, and even create a few posts on Geeky KOOL.  But this is not the instant and convenient access I am used to having at my finger tips.

I feel like a geek unplugged. I am not sure I could handle a week completely without access.  Just having limited access makes me feel like we are in the Stone age.  Well, we are in Branson so…
