Emperor Palpatine Will Return in Star Wars: Episode VII

palpatineAccording to the Latino Review, Emperor Palpatine will return to the Star Wars universe in the highly anticipated Episode VII. Actor Ian McDiarmid will reprise his role as the evil Emperor.  At the end of Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader tosses Palpatine into the energy core of the second Death Star shortly before it was blown up.

How will he return?  Some have speculated that he might be a clone like in the Dark Horse comics, other reports disagree.  Maybe he survived the core and the explosion with his strong connection to the force.  Maybe he will be a ghost like character similar to Obi-Wan.  We will have to wait and see how he returns.

  1. For now, this is pure here-say. Of course, having Palpatine back as a Sith ghost would make sense, as we didn’t know Obi-Wan was going to do that either until Empire. I’d be okay with that. The clone thing was always dumb so I doubt anyone would actually consider that, and it would probably make me quit Star Wars. But until there is something official, these kind of rumors are nothing more than link bait for the sites publishing them. Of course, to stir the pot, when Lucas talked to Carrie Fisher and Mark Hammill about the sequels before his sell off to Disney, the other actor from the previous films he met with was Ian McDiarmid. So speculate all you want from that but there does seem to be a hint of the Emperor’s return in that fact. At this point I think there will be a lot of connections to the previous trilogies in the first movie, but will only be as nostalgia and to build up a complete handoff to the new main characters who will carry on throughout the rest of the new trilogy.

But, yes, Lucasfilm needs to make it official news, or it’s all just a joke! <---yes, click on the link

  2. It appears that Latino Review has confirmation on the return of Ian McDiarmid. They were reporting this as a done deal and not just a Hollywood rumor. We will see.

  3. Honestly, I could not find anything in that article which screams “done deal” but just what a source said. Again, I think Ian’s return is totally feasible, but Latino Review is so unreliable with their “scoops,” they are more tabloid than news source, and they blatantly plagiarize almost everything they post from other sites. But, the question is, did you click on the link? 🙂

And, oh yeah, quit beating me to all the news stories! lol
