More First Run Movies Straight to Digital Release

In the past, when movies went directly to Digital (or video back in the day), it meant it was subpar.  Today is a different time with the Covid 19 virus.  Movie studios are trying to make some money in this time where some cities have shut down all theaters and others will only allow a limited group in at a time.  Studios are trying to be creative.  NBC Universal has started doing this with Trolls World Tour and other movies.

Disney/Pixar has decided to do this with their upcoming release, Onward.  It will be be released tonight on Digital Download.  In two weeks on April 3rd, it will be available to stream on Disney+.

It was reported that Warner Bros would release Wonder Woman 1984 direct to Digital. This appears to have been premature.  At this moment, Warner Bros will release Wonder Woman 1984 as originally planned in theaters. But will anyone be allowed to go to the theaters to see it? This might change as the date draws closer.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the release date doesn’t get pushed back.
