The Last StarFighter “reboot” teased by Rogue One Writer

Gary Whitta who co-wrote Star Wars:Rogue One, sent sci-fi fans into nerd heaven with a tweet on April 4th. The caption on the tweet read “Okay, probably shouldn’t show you this so early but here’s a little something I’ve been tinkering on with my co-writer Jonathan Betuel(the writer of the original movie). You might recognize the ships. Thanks to the amazing Matt Allsopp (lead concept artist on ROGUE ONE) for creating these images for us.”

Here is one of the images shared on that tweet:

No, your eyes are not deceiving you….THAT IS A GUNSTAR.  The ship that protected Rylos from Zur and the Ko-Dan Armada in the 1984 movie The Last Starfighter.  While io9 Gizmodo has labeled it “a reboot”, Gary Whitta on twitter told a commenter “who said it was a reboot”……meaning a sequel to the story of Alex Rogan could still be in the offering.

Definitely will keep my eye out on this one.
