The “G” is Silent, but Her Impact is Loud: Interviewing G. Willow Wilson At Planet Comicon Kansas City

I recently had the incredible opportunity to sit down with one of my favorite voices in modern comics: G. Willow Wilson. For those wondering about the etiquette of the name, she was quick to clarify with a smile—”The G is silent.”

Throughout the convention, it was immediately apparent why Wilson is so beloved by the community. She was exceptionally kind to everyone who visited her booth, engaging every fan with a genuine smile. Whether they were discussing her past hits or asking about her upcoming projects, she made everyone feel welcome, even going so far as to bring comics specifically to sign and give away to fans.

A Legacy of Icons

Wilson’s resume reads like a roadmap of some of the most influential stories of the last decade. She is the visionary co-creator of Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), and her definitive, long-term run on the title remains a personal favorite of mine. Beyond Kamala, her work on Wonder Woman was nothing short of incredible, bringing a fresh and powerful perspective to the Amazonian Princess.

Currently, she is lending her signature depth and wit to Poison Ivy, and fans are eagerly following her work on Black Cat as well.

A Convention Highlight

After she graciously signed a stack of my favorite issues on Friday, she even agreed to a follow-up interview. It was a career highlight to speak with a writer who has shaped so much of the current comic landscape.

Meeting Willow was a fantastic experience, and I truly hope to cross paths with her again at a future convention to continue our conversation. If you haven’t dived into her current runs yet, do yourself a favor and add them to your pull list immediately!
