Star Trek Turns 50 Years Old~ My Thoughts

Fifty years ago today, Star Trek appeared on the television for the first time.  September 8, 1966, Gene Roddenberry’s vision was brought to life by the cast and crew of Star Trek.  For three seasons, fans would enjoy these space adventures every week on NBC.

The ratings of the original run of the series were fairly low. The series popularity skyrocketed when Star Trek began airing in Syndication.  Star Trek became a huge fan favorite with a loyal following.  Star Trek fans can have reputation of fanatical.

I was in my pre-teens when I became introduced to Star Trek.  Re-runs were aired every day after school for some time.  At first I thought it was some hokey old show but I became sucked in the more I watched.  I would rush off the school bus so I could watch Star Trek.  I watched every episode and became a fan of the series.

My first science fiction love was Star Wars when I was seven years old.  Star Trek is right up there with Star Wars.  I only had three Star Wars movies to love but there were three seasons of Star Trek to enjoy.  Without the success of Star TrekStar Wars would have never been made.  I owe my love of science fiction to Star Trek.

I didn’t see Star Trek the Movie in the theaters.  I wasn’t familiar with Star Trek at that time.  But by the time, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan hit theaters, I saw it on the big screen.  I have seen every Star Trek movie since then.  Some of the movies are better than other.  The Wrath of Khan will always be my favoirte.

Every Star Trek fan has their favorite series. I enjoyed them all. My favorite is Star Trek: The Next Generation.  The Original Series was the start of it all but The Next Generation concreated my love for this franchise.  I loved the interaction of the crew.  The craziness of having a Klingon and an android in the cast was a KOOL idea.  I loved the hollodeck and still want one.  Geordi rocked the visor and was almost the genius of Scotty.

Let me leave you with my favorite Star Trek Quote: “I have been, and always shall be, your friend

Happy 50th Anniversary to Star Trek!

Live Long and Prosper My Friends!
