The hit 80s Cartoon and Toyline of Masters of the Universe is alive and well with Netflix. Netflix will have two different He-Man/Masters of the Universe series next year. Kevin Smith helps bring a continuation to the original Cartoon series with the previously announced Masters of the Universe: Revelation anime series. The latest announced series by Netflix is He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which is a reboot/re-imaging of the original series.
Below is the official synopsis of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
“On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe! The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?” (Nerdist)
Fans of He-Man/Masters of the Universe have to excited to see two different series coming to the Netflix. The idea of continuing the story from the original series is fascinating. Kevin Smith heading it up gives it huge geek cred. I am not sure how fans of the original series will take to the anime style with the characters but if the story is good, you hope that most will be won over.
As much as rebooting/re-imaging has to understandably scare some fans with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, they can look to another Netflix reboot/re-image series for hope. Voltron: Legendary Defender was an amazing series. They took a beloved series like Voltron: Defender of the Universe and breathed new life into it while staying true to the core of the original characters.
I have the POWER!
