Meadowlark Lemon, the Harlem Globetrotters’ Clown Prince, passed away at 83 years of age.  When I think of the Globetrotters, I think of Meadowlark Lemon.  He was the face of the team in the 70s when I was growing up and watching them on ABC’s Wide World of Sports.

Lemon played 24 seasons and more than 16,000 games as a Globetrotter.  He had a knack for entertaining the crowds.  Lemon was the star of the Globetrotters cartoon and the Scooby Doo crossover.

Lemon became an ordained minister after retiring from basketball.  He worked with juvenile centers as a motivational speaker.  He had a heart for kids and wanted to help them make better life decisions.

A piece of my childhood has passed away.  Rest In Peace Meadowlark.
