Aim to Misbehave Again: ‘Firefly: Still Flyin’ Animated Series Officially Announced

The wait is over, and the rumors were true. During a packed reunion panel and live taping of the Once We Were Spacemen podcast at Awesome Con today, Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk finally dropped the “Big Damn Announcement” we’ve been waiting for.

“We Are All Nathan Fillion”

The reveal was preceded by a hilarious video featuring the entire surviving crew. In a brilliant bit of meta-comedy, each cast member appeared on screen to claim, “I’m Nathan Fillion,” before the real Mal Reynolds stepped forward to deliver the news: Firefly is returning as an animated series.

Everything We Know About ‘Firefly: Still Flyin’

This isn’t just a simple reboot—it’s a true continuation of the story we love. Here are the “shiny” details confirmed today:

  • The Cast is Back: All surviving original cast members—Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Alan Tudyk—are set to voice their iconic characters.

  • The Timeline: The series, titled Firefly: Still Flyin’, will be set in the gap between the original 2002 series and the 2005 film Serenity. This allows the crew to explore new adventures while keeping the established lore (and our favorite pilot, Wash!) intact.

  • Creative Powerhouse: The show is being developed by Fillion’s Collision33 banner in partnership with 20th Television Animation. Marc Guggenheim (Arrow) and Tara Butters (Agent Carter) are attached as showrunners and have already completed the pilot script.

  • Stunning Visuals: The Oscar-winning studio ShadowMachine (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio) has already developed early concept art, promising a gorgeous, high-fidelity look for the ‘Verse.

“You Can’t Take the Sky From Us”

Fillion shared an emotional message with the fans at Awesome Con, stating, “The dedication of Firefly fans has kept this show relevant for 25 years. This is what you deserve.” While the project is in “advanced development” and currently being pitched to buyers, the massive social media engagement from the “recruitment” videos has made it one of the most anticipated packages in Hollywood.
