When Brian De Palma adapted Stephen King’s debut 1974 novel Carrie into the iconic 1976 horror film starring Sissy Spacek, it etched itself into cinema history. But nearly 50 years later, horror mastermind Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep) is bringing the story back to its full, tragic roots—and updating it for the digital age.

Fresh off a massive teaser reveal at San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video has dropped the first trailer for its eight-episode limited series event, simply titled Carrie.

Having spent her life secluded inside her house with her intensely overprotective, deeply religious mother Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) finds her world shattered after the sudden, untimely death of her father. Forced to step into the terrifying ecosystem of a public high school for the very first time, Carrie becomes the target of relentless cruelty.

Flanagan’s adaptation expands King’s original narrative into an eight-hour deep dive, exploring how Carrie’s ordeal spirals into a viral social media bullying scandal. As the public public humiliation and community-wide scandal escalate, so do the terrifying, destructive telekinetic powers awakening inside her.
