In 1987, gaming history was made in local arcades when Capcom introduced the world to Street Fighter. At the time, it was a straightforward cabinet fighter where players could only choose between martial arts rivals Ryu and his American counterpart, Ken.
Then came 1991’s Street Fighter II: The World Warrior—and the fighting genre was changed forever. Expanding the roster with iconic international fighters, unique special moves, and rich backstories, it became a phenomenon that defined the Super Nintendo era for millions of us holding a SNES controller.
While previous Hollywood attempts (Street Fighter in 1994 and The Legend of Chun-Li in 2009) had their campy charms, they never quite captured the true spirit, kinetic energy, and wild character designs of the games. But the third time looks to be the charm.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the upcoming 2026 Street Fighter movie from Legendary Pictures and Paramount has dropped its first official look, and fans are losing their minds over how insanely accurate it looks.
