If you are a fan of video games as true art, get ready to get excited. The legendary Fumito Ueda—the brilliant mind behind undisputed masterpieces like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian—is finally back with a brand-new project.
Moving away from his classic fantasy settings, Ueda and his team at genDesign have officially revealed gen ATLAS, a breathtaking new single-player, open-world action-adventure game. And yes, it features giant robots.
In true Ueda fashion, the game kicks off with a heavy sense of mystery and isolation. Your character awakens on an abandoned, silent planet with absolutely no memory of how they got there. Stretched out across the endless plains, deserted facilities, and changing seas lie the grand, crumbling remnants of a forgotten civilization—including colossal, dormant mechanical giants.
As you explore this stunning sandbox, you will learn to interface with, control, and bring these massive constructs back to life. The gameplay blends atmospheric puzzle-solving, grand-scale exploration, and third-person action as you form an unexpected bond with a towering companion to navigate areas once completely out of reach.
If you are ready for a sci-fi journey that promises to deliver a profound emotional impact and moments of quiet wonder, check out the gorgeous reveal trailer below.
gen ATLAS is currently in development for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
