I can still hear that iconic 80s intro echoing in my head while watching this: “HE-MAN! And the Masters of the Universe!” The first full trailer for the live-action reboot is officially here, and it’s a massive hit of nostalgia. However, as a long-time fan, I have a few mixed feelings about the direction of this new origin story.
Eternia vs. Earth
One of my biggest gripes with the 1987 movie was how much time it spent on Earth. While it’s probably still “too soon” for some of us who remember that version, this new film definitely leans into Adam’s Earthly roots. In this iteration, a young Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) was sent to Earth for his protection and has been living a normal life—even going by “Adam Glenn”—completely unaware of his royal heritage.
I really hope the majority of the film takes place on Eternia. The “fish out of water” trope is fine for the first act, but I want to see the epic high-fantasy world we grew up with.
The Secret Identity Dilemma
I’ve also noticed that everyone in the trailer seems to know Prince Adam is actually He-Man. I get it—it was always a “bad” secret identity because they look exactly alike (just with a tan and a change of clothes)—but there was always a certain charm to the royal family being oblivious. Seeing him operate more openly is a shift, but it might be a necessary update for a modern audience.
What I Love
Despite my nitpicks, I am genuinely excited.

The Visuals: The look and feel of Eternia, from Castle Grayskull to Snake Mountain, looks incredible.

The Cast: Seeing classic characters like Teela (Camila Mendes), Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and a very menacing Skeletor (Jared Leto) come to life is a dream.

The Vibe: It looks fun, vibrant, and full of the crazy adventure that made the original toy line and cartoon so special.
