Wonderfest 2025

Wonderfest 2025

This past weekend was the 35th edition of Wonderfest. Wonderfest is a science fiction/modeling convention. With this year being the 50th anniversary of Space 1999, I decided that I would attend and see what it was all about. They had Nick Tate who played Alan Carter, the “chief” Eagle pilot in attendance with stars such as Marta Kristian(Judy from Lost in Space), Robin Curtis(Saavik from Star Trek 3), Rico Anderson(Star Trek 2009, The Orville etc), Sam Irvin(Director who got his start with Brian De Palma), Rick Sternbach( designer for Star Trek, and The Last Starfighter) and many others in attendance.

The con had 2 dealers rooms, with every type of model you could think of for sale, Japanese models, Mobius models, 3D printed resin models. out of print books and even various painting supplies for modellers. the con also had 2 rooms for built models, one for larger sized models and a second room for models entered into the conventions modeling contest(this room had around 1000 models in total in it).

I was only able to attend 1 day(Saturday), but in that time, I met some really cool people, took tons of photos and was even able to get an interview or 2. So for this first article, I am  gonna highlight all the great models that I saw.

I also took some time to catch up with Rico Anderson, who had flown in from Toronto, where he had just finished shooting a TV show, no idea what is is all about, but he did tell me that the 4th season of “The Orville” is most likely going to start shooting this fall, as it has to work around everyone’s schedule, and that he hopes to reprise his role as a Moclan doctor(he was in season 1).

Now on to the Models…..

The above models were all in the room for big models made by professional model builders.

Myself with Marta Kristian and the various items that were on a long table display for Lost in Space. the Jupiter 2 model, was the actual filming model for the TV show.

Alien Queen

Some smaller 3D resin Models

There was a large display of Horror Busts that were really cool to look at.

Space 1999 Models A lot of these models were displayed by Zica Toys, and were previews of models they are waiting on being granted a license from Anderson entertainment.
