WGA and AMPTP Reach a new agreement

The Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have agreed to a new 3 year contract. The WGA W and WGAE boards(east and west coast boards) voted unanimously on September 26, 2023 to approve the contract. the contract now will go to the members of the union for their ratification vote which will be held from October 2nd through October 9th.  The boards also agreed to terminate the restraining order and end the strike on September 27th, which will allow for writers to go back to work, although final ratification is up to the members of the union.

For those who are interested in the agreement, here are 2 links, the first one is the tentative agreement, and the second one, shows the WGA’s original position, the AMPTP last offer in May 2023, and the tentative agreement

While this settles the Writers Guild Strike, the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing, until that strike of ended, nothing can be filmed, nor can actors talk about “struck work”. However the Writers can get back to writing scripts, and getting ready for filming. Late night talk shows returned as of last night, so the train is at least once again moving down the track.

GeekyKool supports both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions and their goal to receive fair contracts that protect the workers.
