Robert Carradine, best known for playing Lewis Skolnick in Revenge of the Nerds and 3 sequels and as the father to Hillery Duff’s “Lizzy McGuirre” on Lizzy McGuirre, took his own life, after a close to 20 year battle with Bi-Polar disorder. He was 71. the death was announced by his brother and actor Keith Carradine.
The family put out a statement that read “It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and brother Robert Carradine has passed away. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him. We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bi-Polar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to Mental Illness. At this time we ask for privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion.”
Personal note from the writer – I’m going to miss him, his family has given us some of the best characters since the 80’s. as a person who suffers from PTSD and MDD(major depressive disorder), I have contemplated suicide 3 times in my life. it is a deep dark hole, that I never want to see again. I beg everyone who has these types of thoughts to please reach out to friends, or family or the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800-273-TALK(8255) or the Crisis Text Line at 741741
