Panel: Cosplay on a Budget at Oz-Con

A.J. held a session on on Day 1 about how to Cosplay on Budget.  This is one of A.J. best known panels. A.J. brings her expertise and tricks to how to cosplay and to do it affordable.

A.J. asked if anyone had a cosplay they wanted to do but didn’t know how to do it on a budget.  One lady asked about how to do a “Bad Wolf” cosplay. They discussed how to paint a jean jacket to look like a leather jacket.

There was a discussion about how to create masks.  A.J. discussed how to use modeling clay, paper clay, and paper mache.  “Need to have your mouth open and straws up the nose so you can breath.” Also can take a cheap mask and build on it.

Sometimes you can go with a light cosplay.  This is where you wear the colors of the character and go with the props. The props are key to pull off the light cosplay.

Mashing up characters can be a ton of fun. Put two characters can together that shouldn’t be but have a connection.

Cosplay should never be intimidating. Some people think “I have to be perfect”.  You don’t have to be perfect.

Make up your own character.  It is great to be an “O.C.” aka original  character.  These can be a ton of fun and give freedom to do what you want.

Stay Geeky!
