A truly special film for the impact in what it had on cinema. Pixar’s first fully animated film truly smacked down barriers. It being the first full-length feature film to be completely CG animated puts it in a special category of films that actively changed cinema, and that alone deserves praise.
Now when it comes to its content, Toy Story is a solidly special piece. The idea of toys coming to life and loving being played with is a perfectly Pixar idea. They knock it out of the ballpark in its execution. Everything from start to finish feels believable and fun. The comedy is so clever and each and every character is actually just downright fun.
Woody and Buzz are great as being both dual protagonists and antagonists to each other until the true villain enters the picture. They both develop well and positively throughout the film, and the journey they go on is remarkably quick but well fleshed out. Toy Story really only lacks a true “Pixar moment.” If it had one like the next three films in the franchise do, it would elevate this to a spectacular level. Certainly a film everyone should see.
