New STAR WARS Cast Officially Announced!

Time to celebrate!  With great pleasure, GeekyKOOL brings some of the first breaking news regarding the new Star Wars film, currently only known as Episode 7.  Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have officially announced the lineup of actors who have been cast in the new film.  The following is the official announcement:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Accompanying the article is a photo (above) of the newly announced cast conversing with director J.J. Abrams. Visible in the photo are both newcomers and veterans of the original film franchise alike.  Harrison Ford sits right next to Abrams, no doubt discussing the fine details of Han Solo’s character arc in the anticipated film, which is rumored to be a lot larger than some had speculated.  Mark Hamill looks to have a beard, which would give off an aura of Alec Guiness’s portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope.  And Carrie Fisher is probably spewing allegories regarding her times and experiences filming about a galaxy far, far away, I suspect, to her counterpart in this new trilogy, Daisy Ridley.  Andy Serkis is deeply studying his script and all the new faces look like they are trying to calm their nerves.  Kathleen Kennedy, and I believe Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels (although it is hard to tell due to the pony tail and the other having his back to the camera), seem to be part of the gathering, as well as the backs of several other heads which the camera cuts off at the bottom.  This is an amazing round table gathering and a glimpse into the next Star Wars film, which will most likely be huge at the box office no matter what the final result brings.  I was expecting some news on May the 4th, which is an unofficial Star Wars fan day, so to get this a bit early is outstanding, and may even lead to more news on that day and in the upcoming weeks.  I suspect we may get an official movie title on that day.  Here is hoping.  But this is exciting news and the first crack in the wall of all things that will be coming down the pipeline between now and the release date.

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.
