Meteor Lights Up Northern Texas Sky

Hundreds of reports came in on Monday night a flash lit up the night sky.  NASA Meteor Watch confirmed this was a Meteor flying through the night sky.   They estimated it was traveling around 30,000 mph and traveled 59 miles before braking up.  Many reported hearing a boom as the light went out on the Meteor.

The Meteor was about 1/4 of the brightness of the moon as it streaked through.  NASA believes it was bigger than 6 inches in diameter and weighed around 10 pounds.  The slower speed suggests it is a small piece of an asteroid produced the fireball.  The  meteor was not part of the Perseids shower.
