Heroes, Villains, and Me: The Joy of Reading Comic Books

“Heroes, Villains, and Me” is a periodic article on Geeky KOOL by Larry Litle about the world of comic books and my reaction to it. “Heroes, Villains, and Me” is not a comic book review article. I will write about current events, speculation and rumors, or my own wacky thoughts about the world of comic books.

SpideyandMe

Over the last year, I have slacked heavily on my comic book reading. I continued to purchase the same number of comics but not reading them regularly.  In my stress, I had lost my passion and joy for reading comics.

When I made time to read comics, I really enjoyed this past time.  But I rarely made time to read.  I found myself overwhelmed with life and  the pure number of comics I had to read.  I was months behind.

I made a decision. I committed myself to read daily. I would make time to read my comics.  I would spend time reading comics no matter what.

After all, comics have always been a part of my life.  My father read comics before I was born.  Some of my earliest memories were reading comics.  When I broke my arm at age 6, comics became my escape.

I didn’t have a lot of friends as a kid .  My younger sisters were the only kids I spent much time playing with because we lived way out in the country.  The comic book heroes, especially Spider-Man and Captain America, were my friends and playmates in my imagination.

I slowly started reading my ton of comics.  I read several comics titles like Amazing Spider-Man, Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel, Spidey, Daredevil, Future Quest, and many more.  I binge read months worth of series at a time.

I fell in love with reading comics again.  I had a ton of fun jumping back into these worlds.  I smiled ear to ear when reading a few of the comics.  Spidey and Ms Marvel both brought out my in geek boy.  They made me feel like I did as a kid reading Amazing Spider-Man.  Captain Marvel is a fun super hero space adventure and makes me smile.  I found my joy of reading comic books once again.  Oh how I have missed it.
