Two and a half centuries ago, our country declared itself independent from the tyranny of a king. It has certainly been a bumpy 250 years in an imperfect nation. Yet, looking ahead, I remain fiercely hopeful for our future. This is a resilient country overflowing with incredible potential. While there is always plenty we wish were different, there is still so much that is profoundly right in this nation.

Because it’s July 4th and a holiday weekend, it’s the perfect time to celebrate a unique part of our liberty: the right to openly love, celebrate, and be fanatical about the things that bring us joy. In this country, we are entirely free to embrace our inner geek and nerd passions without fear or judgment. That cultural freedom, right alongside our civic liberties, is something truly special.
So, between the cookouts, the family time, and the fireworks tonight, let’s take a quiet moment to appreciate how fortunate we are to live here, even within an imperfect system. Let’s also remember that politics do not define us as a people. At the end of the day, we are Americans first, no matter which way we lean politically.
