Free Comic Book Day 2017

Today, Saturday, May 6th, 2017, is Free Comic Book Day. Local Comic Book stores have specific comic issues from various comic companies that are completely free. Free Comic Book Day is a way to introduce non-comic book readers to the awesome world of comics. It is also to reach existing comic readers and expose them to some comics they may not collect.

It has become a geek holiday.  People gather together at local comic stores.  Many stores have comic creators in the stores selling work or signing comics.  Cosplay at  Free Comic Book Day has become hugely popular.  The above picture has my son, Logan, along with a couple of Ghost Busters and the Doctor.  Check out some of the cosplayers in the back of the picture.

This was a wonderful bonding experience for me and my son.  It is wonderful to include the next generation in on my addictive hobby. He talked to someone from the 501st Legion and Eternal Armory with pictures of his Star Wars Mandalorian Armor. My son wisely asked if he is a part of the Night Watch (Mandalorian Warriors) and he was.

It is not too late.  You can still go into your local shop and check out what is left. There is a variety of comics available from kids comics, to all ages, to more mature comics. There are comics from every major comic publisher.

I picked up several comics for myself and for my son.  There is a ton of great stuff to read.  I will be reading them for several days to come.

While I was there, I picked up the Bender Graphic novel from  Michael Frizell and David A. Frizell.  Check out the below information on the story. If you missed your chance to pick it up, you can pick up a copy on Amazon.

In the aftermath of the Civil War, the great westward expansion of America was fraught with dangers both overt and hidden. Along the Osage Trail outside the tiny village of Cherryvale, Kansas, the Bender Inn seemed a haven for weary travelers, and one could not help but be enchanted by Kate Bender, the mysterious and beautiful proprietor. However, visitors had a way of disappearing, and time has dubbed it “The Devil’s Inn.” In part one of a three-part serial, witness the construction of the inn and the formation of a partnership that would lead to unspeakable horrors in this true story of murder on the plains.
