I have never divided fan and fanboy like this before. This distinction does make some local sense. Some in the fan community can get quite intense and can be jerks to others that don’t enjoy the same geeky stuff. I love both Star Wars and Star Trek but some people love one and hate the other. If we use this as the standard, then I am definitely a fan and not a fanboy.

Oh my gosh this is spot on! I abhor Fanboys or Fangirls that act like that. They can totally derail someone from ever liking anything in the geek world with their superior attitude and negativity. Who cares if someone doesn’t “get it”. Geek culture is meant to be fun and inclusive. Didn’t we get enough nasty in grade school?!
