My grandmother was an O’Brien, so Irish heritage runs deep in my blood. I grew up hearing stories from my great‑grandmother about the attitudes and discrimination Irish immigrants once faced in America. Some of those stories were surprisingly funny—misguided perceptions, stereotypes, and moments that now feel almost unbelievable in hindsight.
Despite it all, that side of my family was always proudly American while never forgetting their Irish roots. That blend of resilience, pride, and humor is something I’ve always loved and carried with me.
So here’s to all my Irish friends—and to everyone who’s “Irish for the day”:
