The beaches of Malibu and Santa Monica are safe once again! The iconic franchise is making its return, and a new generation of lifeguards is taking over the tower.
Leading the squad as the new Captain of Baywatch is Hobie Buchannon, played by Stephen Amell—following in the footsteps of his father, Mitch Buchannon, who captained the team for decades. Nostalgic fans will also be glad to hear that David Chokachi is reprising his original series role as Cody Madison.
The original Baywatch was a pop culture juggernaut in the ’90s, blending action, comedy, beautiful scenery, and a soundtrack made for summer. While slow-motion beach runs and sun-soaked drama were a massive draw thirty years ago, audience sensibilities have evolved since then. Will this modern revival capture the same lightning in a bottle as the original? Time will tell.
The new Baywatch series premieres on Fox in January 2027, with episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu.
