I recently had the chance to cover the Ozark Mountain Bigfoot Conference in Nixa, Missouri, held at the Ozarks Event Center just outside of town.
The convention took place in one massive hall, with vendor and guest booths lining the perimeter. A fantastic lineup of guest speakers was scheduled throughout the event, with most hosting their own tables. While a few booths focused purely on sharing information and research, others offered books, unique merchandise, and souvenirs for attendees.
From the moment I walked in, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. As I visited the various booths and introduced myself, I explained that I was covering the event for Geeky KOOL. People were genuinely excited to learn that our coverage wasn’t coming from a Cryptozoology specialist, but rather through the curious lens of a geek and nerd journalist!
One of the highlights of my day was meeting Miguel from the Sasquatch Theory video podcast. Although he wasn’t one of the featured speakers, he had a booth set up and spent the day chatting with fans and attendees. I discovered Sasquatch Theory a few years ago, and it completely reignited my fascination with Bigfoot. Miguel is a Missouri native and avid outdoorsman who started his podcast after having his own personal experiences. He does an outstanding job letting witnesses tell their stories without judgment, and his field investigation series—especially The Killing Fields—is absolutely fascinating.
Honestly, I had no idea what to expect when I volunteered to cover this convention. Would it be filled with super intense believers? Would they accept a geeky guy who has never seen Bigfoot himself, but is genuinely interested in hearing their stories?
It turned out to be the latter. Everyone was extremely warm, welcoming, and passionate. The Ozark Mountain Bigfoot Conference was an absolute blast, and I’m so glad I went!
Stay tuned—I’ll be dropping more articles and deep dives on the conference throughout the week!
Stay Geeky!
