John Steinbeck’s classic novel, East of Eden, stands as one of American literature’s most enduring sagas—a sweeping retelling of the Biblical Cain and Abel narrative set across the lush landscape of California’s Salinas Valley.
While the story previously received an iconic 1955 film adaptation starring James Dean, Netflix is preparing to bring a fresh, expanded vision of the story to streaming as a seven-episode limited series. Adapted and executive produced by Zoe Kazan (granddaughter of original 1955 film director Elia Kazan), the upcoming miniseries promises to offer a significantly more faithful adaptation, diving deep into the novel’s core narrative beats and bringing a rich humanization to its key characters.
The project features a stellar ensemble cast:
-
Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames
-
Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask
-
Mike Faist as Charles Trask
-
Joseph Zada as Cal Trask
-
Joe Anders as Aron Trask
-
Hoon Lee as Lee
-
Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask
-
Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton
All seven episodes of East of Eden drop globally on Netflix on October 1, 2026. Check out the official trailer below:
