One of the greatest joys of attending and covering a geek convention isn’t just the celebrities or the exclusives—it’s the people. Specifically, it’s the unexpected moments of running into old friends. This year at Planet Comicon, a major highlight was crossing paths with my buddy, Keith Moncrief of Pop Culture Minefield.
A Meeting of the Minds
We caught up right in the middle of the bustling show floor, lost in a deep dive into life, the universe, and the current state of our shared geek and nerd obsessions. Keith is a wealth of knowledge; his insights and relationships with industry insiders across various studios and creative groups always bring a fresh perspective to our discussions.
His energy is truly infectious. Between the stories and the laughter, his passion for the culture spills over into everything he talks about. Keith is, quite simply, one of the best in the business and an even better guy.
The Sunday Refresh
By the third day of covering a convention the size of Planet Comicon, things can start to feel like a bit of a slog. After three days of hauling a backpack and laptop across the concrete floors, the fatigue (and the backaches) starts to set in. However, running into a dear friend like Keith didn’t just refresh my day—it served as a vital reminder of why we do this.
The community and the connections are the heart of these events. Thank you, Keith, for being such a fantastic friend and for the much-needed boost of inspiration!
