Ace Frehley, the legendary guitarist and founding member of KISS, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 74. He died in a hospital in Morristown, New Jersey, after suffering a fall at home that led to serious complications.
Known to fans as “The Spaceman” or “Space Ace,” Frehley helped define the sound and style of KISS with his explosive guitar riffs and unforgettable stage effects—including his smoking guitar and rocket launches. He also created the iconic KISS logo with its lightning-bolt lettering.
Ace played lead guitar for KISS during two major stretches: from 1973 to 1982, and again from 1996 to 2002. His solo career also made waves, with his debut album going platinum and his final release, 10,000 Volts, dropping just last year.
Tributes have been pouring in from fellow musicians and fans around the world, celebrating his influence and unforgettable presence in rock history. Ace was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and was set to be honored at the Kennedy Center later this year.
Rest in peace, Ace. Your riffs, your spirit, and your space-bound swagger will live on forever.
