I have read a ton of varying opinions on CBS’ Supergirl. Some people really enjoyed this première episode. For others, it wasn’t their thing. Some people criticized the writing and plot. Other people hated the acting. Yet some of us loved the Maid of Steel introduction to the television world. I know my 14-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were engrossed.
No matter if you loved or hated the first episode, a ton of people tuned into watch it. 12.9 Million people watched the première live last night. It held 76% of the young adult demographic from the Big Bang Theory. It earned the #2 spot for last night. After DVR viewing, the numbers should go higher.
When you compare Supergirl to other new Fall premieres, Supergirl ranked #1 among the 18 to 49-year-old viewers. They beat out Fear The Walking Dead, Empire and Better Call Saul. Supergirl ratings were higher than the debuts of all other Superhero/comic book shows like Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Will Supergirl stand the test of time and win the hearts of viewers? Maybe. Only time will tell. I believe it can if the stories are compelling and if Melissa Benoist can make us believe a girl can fly.
