Cosplay Rules to Know Before Missouri Comic Con

Missouri Comic Con is coming to the fairgrounds in Springfield, Missouri this upcoming weekend! With an amazing lineup of guests, panels, and activities planned, it’s shaping up to be a fantastic event for geeks of all kinds.

One of the core traditions of any geek convention is cosplay, and Missouri Comic Con is no exception. I anticipate seeing a ton of incredible cosplayers throughout the entire weekend.

Before suiting up, though, it’s important to be familiar with the convention’s cosplay rules. These guidelines are in place to ensure safety, comfort, and enjoyment for everyone attending.

  11. Props may not be brandished, pointed, flailed, play‑fought with, or used threateningly.
  12. Inappropriate conduct involving cameras (photo or video) may result in removal from the convention, including revocation of privileges without a refund.

  14. Rules may be modified as needed to ensure the safety of all attendees.
  15. Most importantly:

Larry’s Rules for Interacting with Cosplayers

For those who admire cosplay from behind the camera, here are a few simple guidelines to keep interactions respectful and enjoyable for everyone:

  1. Most cosplayers are happy to pose for photos if you ask nicely.
  2. Always ask for permission before taking a photo.
  3. If a cosplayer is walking, resting, or not interested, don’t interrupt them.
  4. Many cosplayers enjoy acting in character—it’s part of the fun.
  5. Cosplay is not consent to touch or speak to someone inappropriately.
  6. Above all, just be a decent human being.
