Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Rob was 78 years old; Michele was 68.
Police were called by paramedics at approximately 3:38 p.m.. Both were discovered inside the residence with knife wounds and pronounced deceased at the scene. The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is treating their deaths as a homicide and is actively investigating.
Rob Reiner was a celebrated actor and director. He won two Primetime Emmys for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family and received multiple additional nominations. His directorial classics include This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, A Few Good Men, Misery, The American President, and The Bucket List. He was also a vocal political activist, well-known for advancing progressive causes.
Michele Singer Reiner began her career as a photographer (famously capturing Donald Trump on The Art of the Deal cover) and later became a producer and executive at Castle Rock Entertainment, collaborating on projects like Spinal Tap II and God & Country. She married Rob in 1989 and helped shape the happy finale of When Harry Met Sally….
They are survived by three children together — Jake (34), Nick (32), and Romy (28) — as well as Rob’s daughter Tracy (61) from his previous marriage to Penny Marshal.
On Monday, December 15, authorities arrested Nick Reiner, 32, in connection with the murders. He was booked on suspicion of murder with bail set at $4 million. Investigators stated Nick has a documented history of drug addiction and homelessness. His struggles partially inspired the 2015 film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote with his father. LAPD detectives continue to question him as part of their ongoing investigation.
Rob and Michele Reiner left lasting impressions through their art, activism, and devotion to family. Their sudden, tragic deaths weigh heavily on those who admired them. Rest in peace.
