It also plays to the veteran Avengers comic book fans. Ant-Man was an original Avenger in the comics. He has been a member on and off since the start. He has had different costumes, identities, and various abilities over the years but still was important to the team no matter.
He doesn’t have Tony’s fancy armor. He can’t pick up and command Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer. He is not a super solider with an awesome shield. But Ant-Man is a hero without any of those things.
