USB-C: The New USB Connector

I remember the first USB Cord I bought. I wasn’t sure how to use it. Once I figured it out, my computer experience was greatly enhanced by all a USB port and cord could do. Over time, USB has changed and grown, mostly by getting faster and fast. USB has continued to evolve and now we have the new USB-C.

USB-C can upload with speeds up to 40 Gbps.  It charges devices faster with more power.  One of the KOOLest things about the USB-C is that it is fully reversible and it doesn’t mater how you plug it into the USB-C port.

Companies appear to be jumping all over themselves to get this technology on the selves.  Apple has started delivering in some of their new Mac Books. Nokia N1 tablet and the new Google Chromebook Pixel are adding it to their devices.  Intel is fully embracing the technology.  Soon all of your USB ports will be USB-C.

  1. Hey, mate. Found your article. Just thought I’d clear things up a touch. USB-C always means USB capabilities are on the machine (up to 10Gbps currently with USB3.1) but not necessarily Thunderbolt (which is the tech required to get the potential 40Gbps throughput). Thunderbolt is a separate, usually more expensive, chipset that is usually indicated that it’s on-board by a lightning bolt icon beside the port, and is usually something only professionals look for, although Apple is good about putting it on all their computers as it was a replacement for Firewire. It’s a tad confusing, but the cool thing is that both updated technologies will now be using the new USB-C universal cable and connector design that is based on the USB3.1 architecture, which will hopefully become the industry standard connection for many devices, including cell phones and tablets. Hope that helps. Cheers!
