To Kill a Mockingbird Rerelease

I love literature and love movies. I must confess that I have a special place in my heart for classic movies. It is very seldom that I see a movie adaptation before I read the novel. But this was the case with the 1962 classic starring Gregory Peck, John Megna, and Robert Duvall. Peck won an Academy award for his role as Atticus Finch. Atticus has also been called The Greatest Movie Hero  of All Time by the American Film Institute. This adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel won 8 Academy Awards. And in my opinion remains one of the most influential movies ever made.

I remembering watching To Kill a Mockingbird with my mom and grandma as a young girl. I was completely enthralled  with the story, with the characters and especially with the truth that this story told. I remembered going to the library the next day to check out the book. I remember reading it and realized that not only was the movie great but the book was as well. The story of Atticus Finch and his children touched me and I must confess helped form who I am today.

Atticus Finch: You never really understand a person. . .until you consider things from his point of view.
Scout: Sir?
Atticus Finch: Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.

Now this classic movie is being rereleased as part of Fanthom Events and Turner Classic Movies partnership that will bring back 14 classic movies to theaters this year. I, for one, am so excited to finally see this movie and others on the big screen.

In this day and age, movies like To Kill a Mockingbird are not only still relevant but can teach lessons of kindness and truth.

To Kill a Mockingbird will be rereleased for two days: Sunday March 24 and Wednesday March 27. This will give us all a chance to experience one of the most significant milestones in film history. Hopefully a whole new audience will watch it and remember why “it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
