Scotty Beamed Up on a Dragon

This morning a private space capsule, Dragon, soared out to outer space, according to Space.com. It was an unmanned craft. Space X ‘s (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.) the Dragon was the first non-government spacecraft to travel to the Space Station. These kind of private space missions will become more common with the end of the U.S. Space Shuttle program.

The Falcon 9 (named after the  Millennium Falcon) Rocket propelled the Dragon into space. It carried the ashes of 308 people including James Doohan, actor best known for his Star Trek role as the engineering expert Scotty.

During all of those years, Scotty would beam the crew, especially the the Bridge officers, from the Enterprise to the planet and back. It is very fitting that Scotty has been beamed (okay just flown but it was on a Dragon) up for his final voyage.  May your ashes drift to the planet Genesis.

I would definitely consider having my ashes flown into space. I just love the idea and they start at $995.00 which is much cheaper than a casket.  If you are interested check out the Celestis website.

Below is the video of the launch of the Dragon and Falcon 9.
