Loki series … Tom Hiddleston!

Loki series … Tom Hiddleston!

I have been a Loki fan since the first time I read a Thor comic with Loki in it back in the 1980s. The God of Mischief and Trickery was and is always a character that I love! In my geeky opinion, Loki is one of the most sophisticated Marvel villain ever created. Yes, he is an evil doer but he also has these underdog characteristic that tug at the heartstrings and has us rooting for him. We love him even when we know his actions are bad. He has this wonderful humanity to him. His humorous charm and wit always made me swoon.

Let’s take a moment to look at little bit of  Loki’s history in the Marvel universe; Created by a iconic comic writer Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber and penciller Jack Kirby, the first version of Loki first appeared in Venus #6 in 1949. However, the modern incarnation of Loki, the one this girl loves, first appeared in Journey into Mystery #85 over a decade later. Loki is the adopted brother of the superhero Thor and often finds himself as the enemy of his brother. Loki is based on the Norse God of the same name. Even though he is a villain, he is sometimes depicted more as an antihero.

So when Thor made his way to the big screen with the Marvel Universe and I found out Loki was going to be in it, this geeky girl’s heart skipped a beat.

And then came Tom Hiddleston! I could write a book on the gloriousness  of Tom Hiddleston, to be honest. He is a beautiful man with such humor and charisma. But I digress. Tom Hiddleston portrayed Loki in the way that my heart had always wanted. With a witty and mischievous boyish charm, that in my mind, did justice to my personal favorite Marvel villain.

I know that some of my geeky kool friends will disagree but for me Loki was the main draw for me to watch the Thor movies. He has given me some of my favorite moments in the Marvel movies. So when I was watching Infinite War and watched my favorite villain, one of my favorite Marvel characters of all time die, I was brought to tears. (Yes I cried a few times during Infinite War but Loki and Spider-Man tore my heart out. I will write another day on Spider-Man and my love for him! Also my love of Tom Holland’s portrayal of him… but today is about Loki!!)

When I saw Loki die, one of the first thoughts I had was  NO! I WANT MORE LOKI! I WANT MORE TOM HIDDLESTON!! NO!!! Then tears… lots of tears!

After Infinite Wars, rumors began to circulate that Tom wasn’t done playing the God of Mischief. This helped heal my broken heart a little. But they were still just rumors.

However, in November 2018 it was confirmed that Tom Hiddleston would indeed don the green and gold again but this time in a short run series that will be available on the forthcoming Disney streaming platform Disney+. Smart move Disney because now this geek will subscribe just to see Tom as Loki. My heart was restored with my Loki love.

What can we expect from this new series and from the God of Mischief and Trickery? Well, it has been confirmed that Rick and Morty’s show runner, Michael Waldron, has stepped into the role of executive producer, show creator, and writer of the pilot. It is rumored that the series will find Loki time traveling throughout human history influencing the events of mankind.

Somehow, I am picturing a Loki styled cross between Quantum Leap and Doctor Who. Both of which make me happy. But no matter the premise, I will be watching! Will you?

Thanks for reading this Geekygirlness.
