ListenToTheThunder3
I had the opportunity interview my friend and fantastic artist, Adam McLaughlin.  Adam was kind enough to take his time to talk about the upcoming comic book, Listen to the Thunder, and the process involved with creating it.  Adam and Listen to the Thunder comic writer, Kevin Watkins, will be at  The Comic Cave on Wednesday for the release party of Listen to the Thunder and to sign comic books.

Check out our interview and make sure to join them on Wednesday October 26th at The Comic Cave.   This is tomorrow. They will be at The Comic Cave from 10 AM to 7 PM.  Come and pick up your own copy of Listen to the Thunder.  My copy will be waiting for me there.

Geeky KOOL (GK):
The Listen to the Thunder Release Party is this Wednesday October 26 at The Comic Cave in Springfield, MO from 10 am to 7 pm.  What can comic fans expect when they show up at the Comic Cave on Wednesday?

Adam McLaughlin (AM): Two handsome figures beaming with pride wearing custom “Listen to the Thunder” t-shirts, Kickstarter packages to give to all our backers who come, sketch covers of issue one available on a first come first served basis, “Listen to the Thunder” t-shirts for sale, and additional copies of issue 1 “Listen to the Thunder” to purchase from The Comic Cave.

GK: Tell our readers a little bit about Listen to the Thunder what they can expect when they pick up this comic.

AM:  “Listen to the Thunder” is Kevin Watkin’s werewolf baby, and I am the midwife bringing this fantastic story to life. For me, this story at its heart is the struggle of reconciliation between father and his estranged son that just so happens to have terrifying, blood-thirsty, wet your pants with fear werewolves. The setting for this story takes place in a small, Midwestern town called Whisper. Dread and suspicion begin to creep into the hearts of its inhabitants like a slow moving storm; a storm where they should “Listen to the Thunder”.

GK: How would you describe your art style for Listen to the Thunder?

AM: I have always pinpointed myself as a fine artist who has learned to draw comics and tell sequential stories. It is not an easy medium but it is amazingly rewarding, and offers the ability to tell very interesting stories.

GK: What are you most excited about with the release of Listen to the Thunder?

AM: I have various levels of excitement because I have been cultivating this story with Kevin over the last few years in the dark. No proverbial beans have been spilled about what takes place in this first issue and what is to come. So, I am excited to put our book into the hands of our fans and finally reveal our passion project that contains killer werebeasties.

GK:  What attracted you to the project and comic book with Kevin Watkins?

AM: Kevin Watkins, my brother from a different mother, and werewolves. I think when he pitched me the idea I stop him like two minutes into his synopsis and said, “wait, bro, you had me at werewolves.” Also, Kevin is a great writer, and I’m amazed at how he writes down to earth, salt of earth, earthy but real fictional people.

GK:  Tell our readers a little bit about the process of creating an indie comic book from creating the art to working with the writer, Kevin Watkins, to getting the comic printed and into the hands of readers.

AM:  Working with Kevin on the story was extremely easy. He’s one of my best friends and he truly loves to collaborate. After penciling, inking, and toning the pages we had the third member of Lunchbox Press, Chris Annen, construct the cover and back matter of the book. Then we sent off the files to A Larger World Studios for lettering and to get the files print ready. While all this was getting down to the final phases Kevin set out to market the crap out of this book on social media, at comic book shops, radio ads, flyers, and I think he sang werewolf sonnets on every street corner in Springfield. We Kickstarted this comic, doubled our goal, and will deliver on time!

GK: Thank you, Adam, for your time.  I cannot wait to read Listen to the Thunder on Wednesday.

AM: Larry! Thanks man! Can’t wait to see you tomorrow!

This concluded our two part interview with both Writer Kevin Watkins (see previous Interview here) and artist Adam McLaughlin.  Both were wonderful to work with for these interviews.  Both are awesome guys.  If you are available to stop by tomorrow for the release party, please do.  You will not be disappointed with this comic or these two fantastic creators.  When they get their contract with Marvel or DC or Image to write and draw this comic monthly, you will have a signed copy of the original comic that started it all.
